Lode Architects’ modest new structure near Honfleur blends a down-at-heel agricultural aesthetic with serene craftsmanship. Located on the site of a former barn - from which it draws its compact 12 x 4.5m dimensions - the pitched roof, wooden-boarded house creates a familiar silhouette. Inside, however, it’s far from rough and ready.

This kindergarten is about 45 minutes by Shinkansen train from Osaka and surrounded by a newly developed residential area. The structure consists of concrete boxes between each of the rooms and a wooden roof that ties them together.

Fuji Kindergarten

A large oval building of about 183m outer circumference, and about 108m inner circumference. Three existing zelkova trees (two of 25m and one of 15m) pass through the architecture. This is a kindergarten for 560 children.
