One of the main design concerns was the building’s environmental adaptation and appropriation.
The site slopes down three metres towards the west, offering attractive views over the neighboring hills.

Sculptures
Designer: Fred Sandback
Location: New York, NY
David Zwirner and Zwirner & Wirth will present the work of American artist Fred Sandback (1943-2003) in two concurrent exhibitions.
Sandback’s sculptures outline planes and volumes in space. Though he employed metal wire and elastic cord early in his career, the artist soon dispensed with mass and weight by using acrylic yarn to create works that address their physical surroundings, the “pedestrian space,” as Sandback called it, of everyday life. By stretching lengths of yarn horizontally, vertically, or diagonally at different scales and in varied configurations, the artist developed a singular body of work that elaborated on the phenomenological experience of space and volume with unwavering consistency and ingenuity.

House in Matinhal

Location: Martinhal, Portugal

This house is located in Sagres (Algarve), the furthest southwest location in Portugal.
This town hosted the Navigation School behind the “Portuguese Discoveries”, established in the 15th century by the infant D. Henrique.
Five centuries have gone by and nowadays these waters are famous for windsurfing.

Garden Museum
Designer: Dow Jones Architects

In October 2007, Dow Jones Architects won an architectural competition to redesign the museum. The competition brief asked for a new gallery space where temporary exhibitions could be housed in secure and environmentally-controlled conditions.
